Description

EDU address

You can have a firstname(P)lastname(Q)polytechnique(P)edu email address if you wish.

It is just a pointer which does not contain any emails but redirects your messages to a mailbox where your emails are stored. This box can be managed by the IT department of X. It expires when you leave the School.

Warning

We strongly advise against forwarding messages destined for your polytechnique.edu address to a third-party mailbox such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail and others. At the scale of the École polytechnique, these transfers affect the reputation of the polytechnique.edu domain each time the promotion or site mailing lists are used, with the consequence of a degradation in the handling of emails from the School by the most common courier services. ** For this we ask you to transfer to an institutional type address (university, higher establishment, etc.) **

Zimbra

The mailboxes managed by the IT department of X operate under Zimbra, a messaging system also used by other IP Paris establishments.

Each person in the directory of the X has an account on this server. It suffices to delete a user from the directory to trigger the deletion of his mailbox.

This deletion is most of the time subject to an expiration date informed in advance by the secretariats of the various departments.

Before it occurs, several closure notification emails are sent to the user:

Your zimbra mailbox associated with this account will continue to function for another 2 weeks. After this period your access to the mailbox will be blocked. Finally, after 6 weeks, the mailbox will be permanently deleted.

Note that mailboxes have a default size of 10 GB.

The use of webmail is to be preferred as much as possible; access by the URL: https://webmail.polytechnique.fr

Username = firstname.lastname + XAJAM password

Warning

We will never ask you, in a message, to provide us with confidential information (access code, password, etc.). If so, it would be a phishing email that should be deleted without responding.

Documentation

You will find all the documentation on the IT of X website: https://portail.polytechnique.edu/dsi/messagerie/zimbra.
